The BASF Triathlon Cup Rhein-Neckar (TCRN) is going virtual with cycling platform ROUVY. The event series normally comprises five events in the regions of Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Wurttemberg and Hesse – in western and south western Germany.
Usually scheduled from June through August, TCRN’s five events are:
- Musbach Triathlon
- Maxdorf Triathlon
- RomerMan Ladenburg
- HeidelbergMan
- Viernheimer V-Card Triathlon
After all events had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event’s organising teams quickly received the green light for a new concept from main sponsor, BASF in Ludwigshafen. TCRN then entered into a cooperation with ROUVY to establish a virtual series of races.
“We are very happy that the cup does not have to be cancelled this year, but can take place as an innovative format with four virtual bike races offered by Rouvy,” says Jürgen Hilberath, Managing Ddirector of the BASF Triathlon Cup Rhein-Neckar.
“With Anne Haug, we also won over the current [IRONMAN] World Champion with our idea; [and] Thanks to BASF, but also because a number of local sponsors support the clubs, we were able to launch the virtual competitions for our fans at short notice and without red tape.”
Pro triathletes Anne Haug, Florian Angert and Julian Erhardt are also getting involved with the TCRN virtual race initiative. Anyone who owns a smart bike or a bike trainer can participate. Participants can register for the TCRN races on ROUVY and ride four simulated versions of the real-world routes.
- June 7th, the Musbacher route through the Palatinate Forest.
- July 18, the Ladenburg route follows the Weisen Stein and on to the Ursenbacher Hohe.
- July 26, the Konigstuhl in Heidelberg can be conquered twice.
- August 23, rides from Hemsbacher Wiesensee forms over Juhohe in Oden
