Aiming to protect the safety of all cyclists and the general public, the team behind the Mallorca 312 (Milestone Series) aims to provide Covid-19 tests for all the participants, at least 48 hours before the commencement of the race, to prevent possible infections.
The event organization has developed a safety protocol in order to celebrate the cycling event ‘with the outmost safety guarantees, should the health circumstances require it.’
The event scheduled for April 25th in Mallorca, Spain, was postponed to October 10th due to the Covid-19 crisis.
In addition to the coordination with public institutions and the Grupo Quirónsalud group, the Mallorca 312 team has developed a protocol which includes all security measures prescribed by the Ministry of Health. This includes the mandatory use of face masks, the maintenance of distancing safety measures and the use of alcohol gels.
In addition, the organization has planned on its own initiative to carry out Covid-19 tests for all participants in order to identify possible infections and prevent spreading. The organisers note that ‘passing the test does not exclude the participant from complying with the rest of the measures stipulated by the health authorities.’
The investment required to implement all these measures has led the organization to cancel the 312km race, while maintaining the 225km and 167km races. With shorter daylight hours during October comes a lack of visibility on the road that could put participants at risk.
Advised by Long Strategic Consultancy and in collaboration with the Clínica Rotger (Grupo Quirónsalud), the event protocol aims to assure the safety of all participants, the staff of the organization and the residents of Mallorca as its primary objective.
For this reason, and to avoid crowds, the distribution of the bib numbers, the conditions of the start of the race and the provisions allocated along the race have been modified substantially.
‘Ultimately, the Mallorca 312 continues to work hard adding new measures to hold the best race with maximum safety guarantees. Despite this effort, the organization cannot guarantee that the Gran Fondo will take place on the scheduled date, since this event depends on the final authorization of health authorities and how the pandemic situation develops in the next coming weeks.’
