HYROX expands indoor fitness competitions to UK

Indoor fitness competition HYROX, in which Infront took a stake last year, is entering the UK market. The first UK event is scheduled to take place in London on 21 November, followed by events in Manchester and Birmingham in early 2021.

The HYROX mass participation competition, which has already attracted over 25,000 participants worldwide, consists of a 1km run followed by a functional exercise, repeated eight times with eight different functional exercises.

HYROX partner gyms will provide tailored training for competitors to prepare and train together for upcoming events.

A release from HYROX explained the indoor event brand’s concept…

‘At HYROX everyone around the world competes in the exact same race, and each HYROX event hosts up to 3,000 participants per day in an indoor arena. HYROX is also measurable. Each participant wears a timing chip and will receive an individual finishing time with comparable results through the HYROX Global Rankings across all events (Singles or Doubles), divisions (HYROX Women/Men, HYROX Pro Women/Pro Men) and in each age group.

‘This combination of functional exercises and endurance makes HYROX uniquely attainable for people from a broad range of sports and fitness backgrounds.’

Participants can sign up as a doubles team with a gym buddy, friend or partner and race in the HYROX Doubles Division – men/men, women/women or a co-ed team. Teammates race together, supporting one another and tag teaming each workout, splitting up the workouts as they choose.

“We are really excited to be hosting three UK events in our 2020/2021 season, giving Brits the chance to compete against their European and North American counterparts and expanding HYROX’s footprint as a global fitness competition for everybody, said Moritz Fürste, two time Olympic hockey gold medallist and Hyrox co-founder.

He continued “We’ve been working extremely hard to ensure the arenas will be safe for our competitors; and we are confident that we will be able to abide by government regulations with our comprehensive sanitation and social distancing provisions.”

Virtual Championships
Throughout the Covid-19 Lockdown, HYROX has sought new ways to provide fitness competitions for its worldwide community. After the success of the Home Series, its first initiative, which attracted 5,000 participants from 51 countries, HYROX has launched the Virtual Championships of Fitness, which will begin on 3 July.

In partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Laureus Response Fund, which goes towards protecting vulnerable children in the aftermath of Covid 19.

The competition will include a bodyweight and equipment division and will comprise of five workouts over three weeks. Participants will be able to create their own leaderboard, or #HYROXLeague, within the competition to challenge friends, family and colleagues.

There will be prizes up for grabs; and participants in the equipment division will have the chance to qualify for the Virtual World Championships of Fitness Grand Final.
