Building on popular IRONMAN 70.3 events in Cozumel, Monterrey, and Los Cabos, The IRONMAN Group has announced the addition of a new IRONMAN 70.3 event that will take place in Mexico’s largest beach and resort city, Acapulco, Mexico.
The inaugural Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante presented by Mundo Imperial will debut on Sunday, May 23, 2021, with general registration opening on Wednesday, December 23.

“With the success of the IRONMAN brand across the region, Acapulco becomes the fourth city in Mexico to host an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon. The community’s inviting and captivating energy makes it both an ideal and exciting location to offer our athletes.”
Known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America, Acapulco has been attracting tourists from around the world to the Pacific coastline of Mexico since the 1940s. A major port for shipping and cruises, Acapulco is known for its beaches, cuisine, Latin culture, and relaxed atmosphere.
The Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante presented by Mundo Imperial will begin by taking athletes along a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) single-lap swim at Majahua Beach in Puerto Marqués.
The bike portion will consist of a 56-mile (90K), two-loop bike ride followed by a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run through the scenic terrain of one of Mexico’s most iconic Pacific coast beach towns on the Rivera Diamante Acapulco. Participants will cap off their race at the finish line located at the Princess Mundo Imperial Hotel.
The 2021 Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante presented by Mundo Imperial will offer 40 age-group qualifying slots to the 2021 Intermountain Healthcare IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in St George, Utah, United States on September 17-18, 2021.
