Billed as ‘the world’s first modular running shoe’, Infinite ONE from German start-up Infinite Running is launching in the USA and Europe. The Infinite ONE shoe is claimed to offer up a ‘revolution in the area of comfort, digitization, & healthy running.’
The shoe features interchangeable modules – helping runners to ‘put together the perfect shoe for their feet.’ Infinite Running adds that it promotes healthy and comfortable running without the need of orthopaedic insoles.
A pair of Infinite Running shoes is also claimed to reduce carbon footprint – accounting for the equivalent footprint of four pairs of traditional running shoes.
The Infinite shoe proposition features 10 modules in the sole. These are claimed to last up to 300 miles before they need to be replaced. There are different types of module depending on terrain: red is for trail running: black is for road runners: blue is for street and everyday use; and green offers higher cushioning properties.
Combinations of modules can also be deployed for those with flat feet or higher arches – as well as over pronation and under pronation/supination in the foot.
The Infinite Running midsole is made of a high-energy PU material. According to the company, ‘this is more stable and durable than any conventional foam; and in contrast to EVA materials typically found in run shoe midsoles, it does not give in and/or break away.’
Going forwards, Infinite is planning a full digitization of its module offering. Each module, when fitted with a pressure sensor, allows data acquisition via an app or directly via a smartwatch. This would offer detailed metrics on running form.
Infinite ONE was founded by Nico Russ a professional half-marathon runner from Germany who among others is sponsored by brands such as Red Bull and Bodyfactory.
The company is in the process of expanding into key markets in Europe and the USA. It adds that the sale of its changeable modules by a running store can offer ‘high margins and revenue as the modules are very inexpensive to produce.’
The Infinite ONE shoe has an RRP of €199, with module kits priced at €39.99.
