IRONMAN Virtual Club rewarding athletes over holiday season

With the holiday season upon us, the IRONMAN Virtual Club will wrap up its inaugural year by offering athletes a way to challenge themselves and stay fit throughout the month of December with ‘Tis The Season To TRI’.

Following the culmination of 34 IRONMAN Virtual Racing Series events that have seen the platform grow to over 125,000 members, the IRONMAN Virtual Club platform will offer a month-long challenge in December, and a series of daily workouts specifically design to cap the first year of virtual racing while rewarding all its participants.

Two virtual challenges
Beginning Monday, November 30 and running through Sunday, January 3, Tis The Season To TRI will offer two virtual challenges, a 150km option and 300km option. Both of these are designed to allow athletes to complete the distance goal over the entirety of the holiday season.

Workouts
In addition, athletes will also have access to 21 specially designed workouts to progress towards their challenge requirement. Workouts will each be open for one day, with the exception of the final workout which will be open from Friday, January 1 through Sunday, January 3.

Workouts will begin daily at 19:00 ET on Friday, December 11 and end at 18:59 ET on Sunday, January 2.

Prizes
Also beginning on December 12, each workout will be live for completion on its designated day with its special prize revealed on IRONMAN social media channels and on the IRONMAN VC platform.

Prizes will include the new HOKA Carbon X shoe, ROKA wetsuits and swim skins, ROKA sunglasses, Suunto watches, Santini trisuits, Kask helmets and OGIO Duffle bags, as well as a US$250 IRONMAN Store gift card.

Each day there will be five winners, and finishers will receive emails with information about the deals they can get on those products in the IRONMAN Store.

Suunto challenge discount codes
In addition, for all Suunto challenge finishers, Suunto is offering exclusive codes for deals on the Suunto website. The final challenge will run through the New Year weekend and conclude on the night of January 3, 2021.

Athletes will also be able to commemorate their participation in the inaugural season of IRONMAN VR with a Limited-Edition Inaugural Member medal available for purchase for a limited time at the IRONMAN Store.

“It’s hard to believe it has been over nine months since we first introduced the IRONMAN Virtual Club to the global community,” said Andrew Messick, President & CEO for The IRONMAN Group.

“Our mission has always been, and continues to be, to provide exceptional, life-changing race experiences for athletes of all levels from their first step through the finish line. In a year of uncertainty this innovative digital platform provided that consistent opportunity for our athletes and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

“We have seen the platform evolve tremendously, growing week to week and offering athletes the structure and continuity that they desire through virtual training and competition. While we look to celebrate the success of the inaugural year of IRONMAN VR, we remain excited as we look to the future of virtual and in person racing with IRONMAN.”

This year, the evolution of the virtual challenge platform has included:

  • Three consecutive IRONMAN VR Championship Series offering IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualifying slots;
  • A five-week long IRONMAN VR Kona celebrating the iconic IRONMAN World Championship; and
  • The IRONMAN VR World Tour that has provided athletes unique virtual experiences in a variety of environments.

In addition, IRONMAN adds that its Race Honorably campaign provided ‘an exceptional virtual racing experience with credible results that required athletes to do their part by entering accurate data.’

To date, 97 athletes have completed all 34 IRONMAN VR races, running over 504km and cycling over 1,690km since the IRONMAN VR1 held in early April of this year.

In addition, seven athletes have completed at least one IRONMAN VR challenge every week since the platform launched, while two athletes have completed all 34 IRONMAN VR races every week and at least one IRONMAN VR challenge to date.
