Outdoor Swimmer mag has launched a new reader package programme designed to support the future of the magazine. Four new reader levels have been created; and swimmers are invited to join the Outdoor Swimmer Family investing in the future of the publication.
‘Outdoor Swimmer is the only printed publication in the world for people who love swimming outside. A small, independent publisher the magazine and online content is professionally produced by a dedicated team of swimming journalists.’
“The current climate hasn’t been easy for anyone,” said Editor Jonathan Cowie. “It has meant that we have had to temporarily become a digital-only magazine. The new reader packages offer an opportunity to engage and enjoy our content in many different ways, as well a chance to become part of the wider Outdoor Swimmer community.”

Fan, Supporter, Patron and Super Patron
Depending on the level that readers sign up to, the new added-value monthly benefits include a monthly mini magazine, print and digital magazine, pre-sale tickets, exclusive offers, free ‘cool’ products or time with the team. All levels offer a special fabric swim badge to sew onto swim kit.
Before the pandemic, like most media platforms, a significant portion of income came from advertising. Unfortunately, many of the mag’s commercial and charity partners have also been severely impacted by coronavirus and have had to cancel their advertising.
In addition, Outdoor Swimmer has also lost other sources of revenue such as retail sales in shops and at the many events attended each year. At the same time, most of the costs (except for printing, paper and postage) have continued unchanged.
Outdoor Swimmer notes that, with pools closed and the future uncertain, more people are dipping their toe into the benefits of outdoor swimming. The magazine… ‘reports on ground-breaking swims, brings you swimming news from across the globe, and shares beautiful locations, amazing challenges and training advice to help readers live healthier and happier lives through outdoor swimming.’
Outdoor Swimmer aims to return to print with a September 2020 issue before returning to a monthly print magazine in 2021. All other issues will be produced in digital format.
