With the steady return of road running there has been cautious progress made by event organisers wanting to return to organising events after the Covid-19 lockdown happened back in March.
This past weekend RunThrough Events hosted the Cheshire Half Marathon at Capesthorne Hall in Cheshire, North West England, becoming ‘the first organiser to attempt to host an event of this scale.’
The event attracted Olympic athletes Jonny Mellor and Ross Millington along with other hopefuls competing in the upcoming London Marathon elite race.
RunThrough Director Matt Wood said “We are pleased with how the event went. The nature of a road closed event means there are more factors involved than your normal park-based or private venue based events. We believe that in order to move the industry back to relative normal it is incumbent on us to host events like this to set the standard moving forward.
“We have hosted running and triathlon events with Covid-Secure methods in place at every kind of venue now across multiple distances. The road back to normality is one that will take some time but we are determined to take on the responsibility for driving this forward.”
He continued, “Our Covid-19 framework has been a base for councils, venues and other event organisers like parkrun to bring their events back/ and we are happy to share this with anyone who requires it.”
The race organisers head to the Goodwood racecourse this upcoming weekend for its running grand prix which includes the marathon distance.
