The discussion with Moritz Fuerste, co-founder at HYROX, the expanding indoor endurance event series, explored a number of areas.
Moritz, aka ‘Mo’, gave some background to his experience as an elite athlete. As a decorated and well-regarded field hockey player he won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics as well as the Hockey World Cup in 2006.
Mo gave his insights on what it is to be an Olympian. Moving on from his unforgettable experiences at the Olympics he is a co-founder of HYROX, which is positioned a unique indoor fitness competition designed for both amateurs and professional athletes.
HYROX races can be completed as an individual or in pairs and are composed of eight 1km runs, which include a functional workout after every kilometre. Competitors at all events cover the same course, with up to 3,000 participants competing during each event.
2020 was clearly a very challenging year for event organisers worldwide. In the discussion, Mo outlines how HYROX faced the Covid-challenge. Prior to the pandemic, HYROX secured an investment from Infront, part of the Wanda Sports Group.
It has also now expanded into the UK, with upcoming events in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Mo sees the UK market as a key one, and the new event brand is optimistic about the future as it continues its expansion in Europe and the USA.
