British Triathlon issues updated Covid-19 statement

National governing body British Triathlon has issued a statement following new lockdown restrictions announced this week by governments in England, Wales and Scotland…

The UK and devolved governments have announced a number of lockdown restrictions across the country which has changed the way our sport can operate.

Below is a summary of the changes and what that means for your training and club activity in each Home Nation.

In England, we are working closely with our relevant partners in order to get more understanding of what the restrictions allow and how you or your club can continue to train.

We will provide updated, detailed guidance once we have this clarity but until that point, the following applies:

  • People can only leave their home to exercise, and not for the purpose of recreation or leisure, and can do so with one person from outside their household
  • This should be limited to once per day, and individuals should not travel outside their local area
  • Indoor gyms and sports facilities will remain closed. Outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery/driving/shooting ranges and riding arenas must also close
  • Organised outdoor sport for disabled people is allowed to continue. However, under 18s [are] no longer exempt

In Scotland, the government announced a ‘Stay at Home’ order from Monday 4 January which means you must stay at home as much as possible. By law, in a level 4 area (mainland Scotland), you are required to stay at home except for essential purposes. All island communities currently in Level 3 should continue to use our existing Protection Levels Guidance when planning and delivering activity.

In Wales, the government announced that the country would be under Tier 4 restrictions from Monday 21 December which means that there are restrictions on how you exercise and travel to exercise.
