Saddle specialist Selle Italia is introducing Green-Tech, a production process developed by its Chairman. According to the company, this allows the manufacture of low environmental impact, eco-friendly products that are quick to produce at competitive prices.
Selle Italia cites the current ‘bike boom’ and its role in Europe. It notes that CONEBI, the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry, estimates the number of bicycle sales in Europe last year to be around 20 million, forecasting a figure of 25 million in 2025.
The company argues that this growth must be met with an eco-sustainable development. Green-Tech is the latest project launched by Selle Italia. It is a manufacturing process that generates products with indisputable benefits: low environmental impact, totally eco-friendly, reduced processing times (and hence shorter time to market), all at competitive costs.
“The new Green-Tech technology was born in the wake of all the previous innovations developed by our company since the 60s,” said Giuseppe Bigolin, Chairman of Selle Italia. “This globally patented solution gives us an absolute advantage over our competitors in terms of both the quality and eco-sustainability of the final product, entirely Made in Italy.”
Selle Italia predicts a soar in business with an increase in turnover by about 40%, equating to a 50% rise in production volumes. Bigolin continued, “Considering the difficulties that many bike manufacturers can expect to encounter during 2021 in procuring accessories from Asian markets, returning to an entirely Italian supply chain will be the key to success in the coming years.”
Green-Tech technology will allow Selle Italia to optimise its production process, increasingly aligned with industrial standards. It adds that it will develop products able to respond to the ‘demands of both the OEM market and the ‘After Market’, thus allowing cycling enthusiasts to purchase quality, 100% Made in Italy and 100% environmentally sustainable products for their bikes.’
As an OEM supplier, the Italian company supplies numerous brands such as Canyon, KTM, Wilier-Triestina and more.
Alongside product innovation, Selle Italia has for a number of years undertaken a process of company digitization: from its website in seven languages with the launch of direct e-commerce offers in the USA and Spain, to the organic growth of its social networks, and also sales and marketing strategies adopting a multi-channel approach.
This digital footprint has also expanded via commercial agreements with numerous industry and non-industry e-retailers such as Amazon, Wiggle/Chain Reaction Cycles, ProbikeShop, FuturumShop, and others.
“We have adopted an omni-channel type strategy, which has allowed us during this unpredictable time, heavily affected by the health crisis, to maintain a constant growth rate and welcome business opportunities previously considered unthinkable,” added Nicola Baggio, General Manager of Selle Italia.
These new investments are also supported by marketing activities, with the decision to work alongside professional teams and ambassador athletes such as Mathieu Van Der Poel, and also the ex-pro, but forever charismatic Fabian Cancellara, who will contribute to the development of a line in his name.
