ESSNA announces new 2021 conference dedicated to sports & active nutrition regulation

The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA), the trade body for sports and active nutrition in Europe, has announced its newest event – ‘Sports and active nutrition policy and regulation – status, challenges and opportunities for the future.’

The new conference is billed as the only European online conference dedicated to discussing the policy and regulatory changes affecting the sports and active nutrition sector.

The virtual event will take place on September 21st and will feature expert speakers including nutritionists, academics, regulatory experts and policymakers. These include:

  • Professor of Nutritional Physiology, Dr Ben Wall;
  • Member of the European Parliament Alessandra Moretti; and
  • Director Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Food Supplements Europe, Patrick Coppens.

A range of experts will discuss how to shape future legislation that may affect the sports and active nutrition industry and the intersection between science, regulation and education.

In addition to virtual networking opportunities, conference themes will include:

  • Nutrient profiles and front-of-pack nutrition labelling: what is the impact on the sports and active nutrition?
  • Food composition: maximum permitted levels for vitamins and minerals, and how to translate the specificities of the sports nutrition sector into the legislation?
  • Communicating the benefits of sports nutrition, why is achieving health and nutrition claims so hard?

Dr Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA, said “The ESSNA regulatory event is an opportunity for sector leaders to meet, learn about and share ideas on some of the most relevant issues affecting sports nutrition today.

“Our industry is changing and innovating all the time, so it is vital that we are able to bring together businesses and stakeholders from across Europe to discuss what the future holds. This event will fill a gap in the event calendar by bringing together policy-makers and stakeholders from across the sports and active nutrition sector to engage in thought-provoking discussions on some of the most pertinent EU and UK regulatory initiatives.

“This event will dig deep into how European legislation has affected our sector to date, what’s in store for our future, and how businesses can make the most of the changes.”

He added “ESSNA has always fought for fair and proportional sports nutrition regulation that allows the industry to thrive. Our conference brings that goal into a public forum, where our members and other sports nutrition companies can contribute to positive change and growth.”
