The 31st edition of La Tour Geneva Triathlon took place on September 18-19, from a new location at Eaux-Vives beach, on the shores of Lake Leman, Geneva.
After the forced cancellation of the event in 2020, this year, the organising team reported that 3,523 athletes had signed up (before onsite registration) for the event… ‘securing the event’s place as the biggest triathlon in Switzerland.’
The event has reported an… ‘increase in the number of female participants from 29% to 34% of the total field in the last two years. Amongst these, interest from young women, has seen a significant increase.’
For this year, a strict health protocol was put in place, with, among other things, a COVID Passport to be presented by all participants.
Benjamin Chandelier, Race Director, ahead of the event, said “We have all missed the triathlon; participants, partners, communities, media, volunteers and organisers.
“We are happy to launch this 31st edition on a new shore with our faithful institutional and private partners and, in particular, L’Hôpital de La Tour, our main partner.
“For the second year, UNHCR is the charity partner of the event, and we are proud to help raise funds to help refugee families. Together with all our partners, we have managed to get our heads above water and offer participants a sensational and environmentally friendly event that will mark the end of the summer in style.”
During the event weekend at the half distance, Tom Hug snatched victory from Thomas Huwiler, ambassador of the event and winner of the last edition.
The organising team also reported that more than CHF 10,000 (US$10,700) in donations had been collected for the UNHCR.
