While there was minimal triathlon racing in 2020, the team at Blueseventy was hard at work looking for ways to optimize its range of wetsuits. The company has released three new wetsuits for the 2021 season. These aim to suit the needs of three different levels of swimmer.
The iconic Helix suit has received an upgrade in panelling to help increase a swimmer’s distance per stroke.
Blueseventy owner and CEO John Duquette said “It’s hard to improve upon what many people feel is the perfect wetsuit but our design team is always looking for ways to get just a little more out of this suit.
“Feedback from our testers confirmed this is the best version yet when it comes to the reach phase of the swim stroke.”
On top of the updated panelling, the 2021 Helix features thinner rubber in the lower legs to allow the suit to come off easier.
At the entry level price point the Fusion wetsuit has received ‘significant upgrades’. The shoulders and arms have been upgraded to premium Yamamoto neoprene and liners in order to make the suit more flexible and improve fit. Furthermore, the neck of the Fusion has been lowered and widened to increase comfort.
Duquette added, “With the pools closed for most of 2021 we were introduced to an entirely new group of open water swimmers. These swimmers aren’t looking to compete in races, they just want a suit that’s comfortable and durable. We’ve delivered a great option for a fitness open water swimmer or triathlete.”
Finally, Blueseventy has introduced a brand new novice suit called the Glide. This sleeveless suit features legs cut off at the knee and a ‘very attractive price point’.
“It’s unlikely the Glide will be the first suit out of the water at a triathlon but that’s not its purpose,” explained Duquette. “Many fitness swimmers want a suit that provides some warmth but isn’t overly buoyant.”
Constructed of full Yamamoto neoprene, the Glide is claimed to be easier to put on and take off than a standard full length wetsuit. It is positioned as an option for swimmers who perform two or more different strokes.
These three new suits join the existing Reaction Series (Thermal, Fullsuit and Sleeveless) and the Sprint suit to make up the entire 2021 line of blueseventy wetsuits.
