New title sponsor: LOTTO Challenge Gdansk

LOTTO has become the new title partner of Challenge Gdansk in Poland. The event is scheduled to take place in the Polish city on Sunday, June 20th.

The organising team add that, in alongside the confirmation of the new title sponsor, the event’s first edition will take place, ‘due to some extra safety measures taken for COVID-19.’

“I’m very happy that LOTTO has become the title sponsor of our event,” said Race Director Adam Greczylo. “It is very important that in these difficult times we have a solid and reliable partner who has been the greatest patron of Polish culture and sport for 65 years. It’s good to see the trust they have placed in us.”

He continued, “There have been several times when we could have decided not to organise the race, but that is not in our nature. Of course, the safety of all our athletes is paramount and we will never lose sight of that, but if it fits within our possibilities, we want to organise LOTTO Challenge Gdansk ‘just like that’. Fortunately, organising the event actually fits within the possibilities. So bring it on.

“On short notice we will announce who all will be at the start with us, but count on there being some strong athletes and big names among them. In any case, we will do everything we can to ensure that everyone enjoys a memorable race.”

In April, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) confirmed that it has partnered with LOTTO Challenge Gdansk to provide a professional prize purse. PTO will provide an additional €13,000 to the existing prize purse of €19.000.

The professional race is a non-drafting middle distance race and has a 1.9km swim in the Baltic Sea, and a fast and flat 90km bike course comprising of three laps. These take in the Energa Stadion used during the EURO 2012 soccer tournament and passes through the tunnel under the Vistula river.

The 21.1km run course takes athletes along Gdansk beach to the finish line on the Gdansk Prior Pier.
