The Balearic Island of Mallorca, Spain, is ready to host the comeback of a long distance race on September 25th.
The Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon, with its full and half distance events, will include a professional field – with racing in Playa de Muro and Alcudia Bay.
The full distance event features a 3800m swim, 180km two lap bike and a 42.195m run – with the half distance event featuring half the distances: 1900m swim, 90km bike and 21km run.
The Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon was due to make its return in 2020; but, as with many events, it suffered from the impact of the pandemic.
The event now aims to become one of the best triathlon races in Europe with ‘top quality organization and going back to the origins of the sport.’
The organisers add that ‘no drafting will be guaranteed’, extending the bike drafting distance from 12m to 20m, with a number of marshals along the course. There will also be a more limited athlete participation due to local ongoing Coronavirus protocols – to help ensure a safe event for athletes, spectators and volunteers.
There will be also a ‘vintage’ category for triathletes who participate with equipment from the 80s and 90s, copying the pioneers of triathlon. There is a prize pot of €10,000 for pro athletes shared among the male and female categories.
This long distance triathlon is organized by local company Kumulus, which has experience in organising international events in Mallorca, including the Zafiro Palma Marathon, Portocolom Triathlon, Long Course Weekend, Powerman Mallorca Duathlon, Spartan Race Mallorca, Super League Triathlon and past editions of IRONMAN Mallorca.
