The Zwift Racing League, one of Zwift’s biggest competitions, returns this autumn/fall with indoor, virtual racing for all abilities. Zwift notes that this team-based competition saw 1,530 teams and 11,759 racers take part earlier this year.
Registration for the new Zwift Racing League season is now open. Teams must be registered by September 25th. Registration takes place on the WTRL Zwift Racing League website.
Each team can be comprised of up to 12 racers. Teams may rotate riders each race and must field a minimum of four riders and up to a maximum of six per round. Once underway, races take place every Tuesday.
2021/22 season dates
Season 1: 28th September → 27th November
Season 2: 11th January → 5th March
Season 3 (Finale): 5th April → 10th May
Zwift Racing League is a team-based competition, with each rider’s points converted into league points for the team. Races alternate between team time trials (TTTs) and circuit races.
For team time trials, the result is taken from the fourth rider across the line, with points awarded based on finish time.
In circuit races, points are awarded based on finish position. Bonus points are also available via ‘First Across The Line’ (FAL) or ‘Fastest Through The Segment’ (FTS) primes, with points awarded to the top 10.
Each season takes place over a period of 8 weeks, with the winners crowned at the end of the competition.
Team Time Trial
Similar to the individual time trial, a team time trial is a race against the clock. Teams must work together closely, each taking turns in the ‘wind’. Zwift notes that team time trials are fast, require a high level of concentration, communication and most importantly, teamwork.
Team Time Trial racing on Zwift was developed by community race organiser, WTRL.
WTRL continues to host regular TTT events on Zwift and also organises the Zwift Racing League. All teams are allocated start times and must set off together at their allocated time. WTRL calculates final times after the race with results posted on the Zwift Racing League site.
Communication is important; so, many teams use Discord for live communication during the race.
Premier Division
The Zwift Racing League Premier Division features the best esports teams and competitors. Premier Division acing will be streamed live every Monday on the Zwift YouTube channel.
Competition for all abilities and all territories
The Zwift Racing League offers competition for all abilities of rider, with racing from D category and above. Those who improve their fitness during the Zwift Racing League will have the opportunity for their team to be promoted up to the next division.
Racing will take place every Tuesday for the Mixed ZRL Teams and Women’s ZRL teams. There will be four women’s divisions across different time zones. There will be 10 different divisions for mixed teams, helping to make the Zwift Racing League a global competition.
