Spartan and Ordnance Survey putting trail events on the map

Spartan, the leading obstacle course race (OCR) and trail running brand, is teaming up with national UK mapping agency, Ordnance Survey and its award winning OS Maps app. The new partnership aims to bring Spartan’s inaugural Trail Series to life and showcase the physical and mental benefits of trail running to people of all ages and fitness levels.

“Spartan are a global name in the outdoor industry and we’re delighted to be working with them on their Spartan Trail races this year, ” said Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Leisure.

“The popularity of trail running, both as a leisure activity and in a more competitive format, has grown rapidly over the past few years and with Spartan Trail bringing their races to the UK for the first time in 2021, there’s great opportunity to combine the excitement of Spartan Trail with our award winning OS Maps app to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get outside and feel the benefits of being in the great outdoors.”

During the 2021 season, Spartan will host three trail events across the UK: at Marston Lodge (Midlands), Pippingford Park (London South East), and Glanusk Estate (South Wales).

There will be 10K and Half-Marathon races at each venue. The Trail Series is geared around getting racers active and back amongst the great outdoors after a year of largely being stuck indoors.

The partnership will bring each of the trail events to life, giving participants the opportunity to review the course ahead of time, and follow on the day of the event; with maps available to view and download on the OS Maps app.

Runners will be able to visualise the route with detailed OS mapping, aerial views and 3D route fly-throughs to plan their race day strategy and get the most out of their Spartan experience.

“As many of us take time to reconnect with nature and challenge our body physically and mentally, we are delighted to be working with Ordnance Survey who share our philosophy of getting more people outdoors more often, exploring with like-minded adventurers,” said Emily leRoux, Director of Global Partnerships at Spartan.
