Issuing an emergency executive order, the Governor of Hawai‘i, David Ige, has this week implemented state-wide limits for social gatherings.
Under the new order, indoor social gatherings of more than 10 and outdoor social gatherings of more than 25 people are now prohibited in Hawai‘i. Specifically for professional events, these… ‘must comply with all state and county orders, rules, and directives regarding operation.’
There is no indication, as yet, if this the new order will impact the IRONMAN World Championship, which is scheduled to take place on October 9, 2021, in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
It appears that the new regulations allow for permitted events to go ahead, provided that there is full compliance with local state requirements. However, the new rules are expected to present an inconvenience for travelling athletes. In addition, unless superseded by a subsequent order, the new emergency order across Hawai’i terminates on October 18, 2021 – after the event in Kona is due to take place.
The executive order from David Ige, Governor of Hawai‘i, notes… “The Delta variant has changed the course of the pandemic in our state urgently, such that the COVID-19 continues to endanger the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Hawai‘i and requires the immediate and serious attention, effort, and sacrifice of all people in the state to avert unmanageable strains on our healthcare system and other catastrophic impacts.”
Fully vaccinated domestic US travellers entering Hawai‘i are not required to quarantine. Health screenings on arrival and a mandatory Safe Travels Hawai‘i form must be completed upon entry. Travellers from outside the US will be required to undertake a 10 day quarantine, and, following CDC guidelines, travellers from certain countries are currently not permitted to enter Hawai‘i.
