Ducati is aiming to build a reputation for more than just motorcycle racing. In recent years it has expanded its footprint into performance e-bikes and has now unveiled its latest version of the Futa e-road bike – the Futa e-Road AXS.
Featuring the SRAM RIVAL eTAP AXS groupset with 2×12 speed wireless electronic gearshift, AXS connectivity and the option to integrate an optional power output meter, the new offering enhances Ducati’s range of pedal-assisted bicycles.
Ducati adds that the SRAM Rival eTap AXS groupset includes hydraulic disc brakes, a wireless electronic gearshift and precise, responsive 2×12 speed connectivity.
The Futa e-Road AXS joins Ducati’s existing e-Road model with an FSA K-Force groupset. Ducati entered the e-road segment with the Futa in early 2022. The bike has been named after the Futa Pass, the stretch of road that crosses the Apennines and connects Florence to Bologna, where Ducati’s products are tested before launch.
The new Futa e-Road AXS has a UD carbon fibre monocoque frame with an endurance geometry, but with… ‘design choices that are deliberately oriented towards aerodynamics.’
Ducati adds that the compact rear stays, with lowered seatstays, make the bike more comfortable while generating less aerodynamic resistance. The rear triangle is more rigid laterally, due to the choice of seatstays. This favours better power transmission to the wheel, as well as increasing the bike’s responsiveness.
The motor, located on the rear hub, is the FSA System HM 1.0 with 250W and 42Nm of torque. This motor is equipped with 5 assistance levels that can be selected via the Garmin control on the handlebars.
The FSA app, available for iOS and Android devices, enables the rider to view riding statistics, remaining battery life and charge status.
Deliveries of the Futa AXS will begin in March 2023 in Europe, and in June 2023 in the United States.
