The Giro d’Italia Virtual, organised by RCS Sport and BKOOL, is an indoor cycling event that offers cycling fans the opportunity to ‘experience the magic of the Corsa Rosa across multiple stages, from home, riding their own bike, with a smart trainer or a power meter.’
‘Riders are able to enter a virtual challenge at any time, through a digital platform, in which 3D simulation and real video merge to reach the maximum real experience in each stage.’
The Giro d’Italia Virtual hosted by BKOOL is made up of three separate rounds, running from October to June 2022:
- Grande Partenza – part one (from 15 October to 2 January, which recently finished),
- Grande Partenza – part two (from 17 January to 3 April), and
- Grande Arrivo (from 6-29 May), which takes place simultaneously with the real-world 2022 Giro d’Italia.
The launch of the first round in October brought cyclists together from more than 30 different countries, in contact with real stars of pro cycling: from Chris Froome to Sergio Higuita, from Oscar Freire to the riders of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team.
Alberto Contador and his team, EOLO-Kometa, will now join the other pro riders who have shared training sessions with cycling fans.
Grande Partenza – part two:
- Torino TISSOT ITT: 8,3 km / 14 m+
- Ravenna – Verona: 30 km / 96 m+
- Perugia-Montalcino Brunello di Montalcino wine stage: 25 km / 540 m+
- Monte Rest: 11 km / 626 m+
- Milano TISSOT ITT: 25 km / 13 m+
The first stage, Torino TISSOT ITT, which corresponds to the stage of Turin, is open to everyone and any fan can try it free of charge, taking 30 trial days trial available on bkool.com.
As with the Grande Partenza – part one, participation in the second group of stages will also have prizes up for grabs. Among the prizes is an exclusive VIP experience at the 2022 Giro d’Italia and at Il Lombardia.
The Giro d’Italia Virtual experience also has a technical shirt in 3D Mesh fabric, specifically for indoor training, designed in collaboration with Technogym and Castelli.
