The latest original film from GCN+ follows endurance athlete Mark Beaumont and his team in their bid to retake the iconic North Coast 500 cycling record in the UK.
Having set the inaugural time for the North Coast 500 cycling route (37 hours, 56 minutes and 44 seconds) in 2015, the target was a new record set by Robbie Mitchell in September 2022.
Riding on an Argon 18 E-119 Tri+ bike with an aerodynamic NoPinz skinsuit, Hunt wheels and a detailed nutrition strategy, the film shows Beaumont as he prepares for and conquers Scotland’s ultimate road endurance challenge.
The record was by no means in the bag, however. Cycling fans will witness the rider fighting to keep Mitchell’s record in his sights as he tackles miles of unrelenting gradients and headwind, plus hours of pitch-black night riding with the threat of storms looming.
In the North Coast 500 film, viewers will see what it really took to break the record, with Mark Beaumont finishing 30 minutes ahead of the previous time.
Mark Beaumont said “One man’s effort in a 28 and a half hour time-trial is the headline-grabbing tip of the iceberg.
“This documentary tells the full story, behind the scenes of the planning and teamwork that was needed to break the iconic North Coast 500 record. This was by far the hardest single effort of my career. Going that deep for that long, I learned something new about my ability as a racer.”
GCN+ is also home to exclusive films following Jenny Graham’s unsupported ride around the world, Eastbound, plus ultra-endurance adventures featuring Lael Wilcox, Josh Ibbett and James Lowsley-Williams.
