Wahoo launches POWRLINK ZERO pedal-based power meter and KICKR ROLLR smart trainer

Wahoo Fitness has announced the availability of its POWRLINK ZERO pedal-based power meter. Based on the dual-entry SPEEDPLAY road pedal system, the POWRLINK ZERO is now available for purchase in both single-sided and dual-sided pedal options.

Wahoo acquired Speedplay in 2019, and POWRLINK ZERO is built around the Speedplay Zero pedal system. This had already enjoyed a loyal following before being updated and relaunched by Wahoo in 2021. The new pedal features dual-sided entry, a low stack height, and a pedal float that is adjustable to between 0-15 degrees.

The pedal-based design makes it easy to switch the power meter between multiple cranksets, allowing athletes to get the benefits of training with power on each bike they ride.

The new POWRLINK ZERO weighs 250g for the single-sided option (left power measurement only), or 276g for the dual-sided option. The MSRP is £549.99 and £849.99, respectively.

Wahoo took the +/- 1% claimed accuracy of its KICKR series of smart trainers into POWRLINK ZERO. The new power pedal also features a rechargeable battery that provides 75 hours of ride time per charge. There is connection to third-party apps and devices via ANT+ and Bluetooth, and backwards compatibility with legacy SPEEDPLAY ZERO cleats.

“Wahoo has always been at the forefront of providing athletes with accurate, reliable power data with our KICKR series of indoor smart trainers,” said POWRLINK ZERO Product Manager Katie DuPree.

“Now we’ve leveraged that expertise to create a pedal-based power meter that lets athletes get the same robust performance data when they ride or race outdoors, with the added benefit of dual-sided entry and great aerodynamics.”

The new power meter offering complements the existing Wahoo SPEEDPLAY pedal system line, which consists of the COMP (£134.99), ZERO (£199.99), NANO (£379.99), and AERO (£239.99).

POWRLINK ZERO has already been selected by athletes including IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Lucy Charles-Barclay and the Le Col Wahoo women’s professional road team.

KICKR ROLLR
Alongside the new POWRLINK ZERO pedals, Wahoo has also released the KICKR ROLLR smart trainer. This has a dual roller-based design – combining the convenience and natural ride feel of rollers with the benefits of controlled resistance and connectivity.

Designed to accommodate a wide range of frame and tyre sizes via a quick-release adjustable wheelbase clamp, KICKR ROLLR makes it easy to take bikes on and off. This makes it easier to transition from indoor training to riding outside, as well as for households where multiple riders use the same trainer.

Without the need to remove the rear wheel, KICKR ROLLR can also act as a warm-up platform before events or big training sessions. This is especially useful for track cyclists or professionals who may not be able to make changes to their equipment after pre-race bike checks.

Learning how to ride traditional rollers can often involve a steep learning curve. Wahoo adds that… ‘KICKR ROLLR allows even the most balance-challenged cyclists to experience the natural ride feel of rollers, thanks to the innovative Safety Tyre Gripper, which secures the front wheel on bikes with tyres up to 2.1” / 53mm. This makes getting on and off the bike surprisingly easy, while also providing a stable platform for even the biggest out-of-the-saddle efforts.’

“KICKR ROLLR gives endurance athletes a convenient, versatile, and feature-packed option to train indoors or get ready for an event,” said Wahoo KICKR Product Manager Tyler Harris.

“The ability to easily take your bike on and off the trainer while enjoying the singular ride feel of rollers really sets KICKR ROLLR apart.”

To provide power measurement and smart trainer control, KICKR ROLLR connects to bike-mounted ANT+ power meters. For those athletes who don’t yet have a power meter, Wahoo is offering a bundle that includes both the KICKR ROLLR and the Wahoo SPEEDPLAY POWRLINK ZERO single-sided, pedal-based power meter.

KICKR ROLLR has an MSRP of £699.99, or £1199.99 bundled with the SPEEDPLAY POWRLINK ZERO single-sided power meter.
