Garmin has become the official timer for the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, with the event’s 46th edition set to take place on April 2, 2023.
Éric Bernard, Managing Director of Garmin France Benelux, said “We have been thinking for some time about supporting a major running event in France. The Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris was therefore quite a natural choice.
“Its international reputation combined with its ideal geographical location make it unique and indispensable. We launched our first connected watches in 2003. At the time, they were models entirely dedicated to running. Today, the brand is renowned for its expertise in the world of running. What could be more natural for Garmin than to become the official timer of Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris?”
Yann Le Moenner, Managing Director at event organiser Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), said “We are extremely pleased and proud to welcome Garmin on board as the Official Timer of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris.
“Their experience and expertise are a valuable asset, considering how important time is in tackling and preparing for an effort of this magnitude. In addition to time-keeping, a wide constellation of technologies is joining forces with the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris and available to help entrants with their training and performance, thanks to smartwatches and their digital environment, which have become true personal coaches.”
Éric Bernard at Garmin continued, “Sport is in our DNA and running is our domain of preference. As the first firm to offer connected watches to sportswomen and sportsmen, we met with immediate success, and the growth was impressive.
“Today, a significant part of our success comes from the sales of connected sports watches and running is the main activity of our buyers. Most sportswomen and sportsmen who buy Garmin equipment do it, irrespective of the discipline in which they are involved. Running is the perfect complementary activity, and essential fundamental… whether you are a golfer, racing driver, rugby player, yachtswoman or yachtsman.”
Bernard added “Running is attracting more and more people: women, men, seniors… In recent years, the practice of running among young people has even intensified.
“Many newcomers to the sport discovered it during recent years and have continued to run regularly since then. For Garmin, it was the right moment to become a sponsor of a major event such as the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, in an exceptional sporting context in France, with the Rugby World Cup in 2023 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
“The Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris offers us great visibility and allows us to reach a very wide audience. In addition to our loyal community, at whose side we are constantly and gladly present, as they know, we wish to reach out to all runners in becoming a partner of ASO.
“Garmin wants to participate and contribute to the national and international dynamic surrounding the event. As the second biggest marathon in the world in audience terms after the New York marathon, the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris is regularly watched by more than 20 million people in more than 190 countries.
“Also on the programme, in addition to pre-race and race activations, we will be highlighting our two new GPS running watches, the Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965. Garmin will also be present at Run Experience with a stand where we will take the time to advise our customers and help them use our products.”
