The organizers of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships have revealed the multi-discipline event’s Gran Fondo routes.
The city of Perth, on the banks of the River Tay, will be the start and finish points for both the Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo road races at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships taking place in Glasgow and across Scotland.
The inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships, taking place from August 3-13, will include 13 UCI World Championships across different cycling disciplines. The dates of the Gran Fondo events are:
Friday 4 August:
- Gran Fondo road race (women aged 19 to 49, men aged 19 to 59)
- Medio Fondo road race (women aged 50 and over, men aged 60 and over)
Monday 7 August:
- Time trial for all categories
The Gran Fondo is designed to offer amateur cyclists a taste of a championship atmosphere. Competitors in the Gran Fondo road race will cover 160.3km through the Perthshire countryside which will see them tackle 1,663m of climbing. The Medio Fondo peloton will compete over an 85.7km route with 777m of climbing.
The time trial will take place across Dundee and Angus, starting just east of Dundee, taking in some of the coastal scenery of Angus and finishing near Dundee. Competitors in all categories will race over the same 22.8km time trial course with 89m of climbing.
