The Wales arm of the UK’s leading children’s charity, NSPCC, is extending its partnership with the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon.
Since becoming lead charity partner of the event in 2018, NSPCC Cymru has raised more than £500,000 through its team of dedicated runners.
The charity now hopes to raise even more to help change children’s lives by extending its partnership with the Principality Cardiff Half in 2024. Next year’s event will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
As part of the charity and event tie-up, 100 NSPCC early bird places will be going on sale on October 16, 2023. These places allow runners to secure their entry for just £1 while pledging to raise £300 for the charity. Once these are gone, a limited number of spaces for the charity will become available for £10 per head.
Money raised will go towards helping to fund the charity’s helpline, Childline. Childline is a vital service, on average a child contacts the service every 45 seconds and in 2022-23 more than 5,000 children in South Wales used the service.
Emma Brennan, Supporter Fundraising Manager at NSPCC Cymru, said “Abuse impacts children during the day and night. And when it does, it’s vital that children have someone they can talk to – no matter the hour. That’s why Childline is here to listen and help with whatever children are facing, from abuse to everyday worries. Our Childline counsellors are here 24/7 – all day, all night, always.
“More than 90% of our funding comes from donations, and by raising £300 each runner could pay for up to 75 children to get the help and the support they need when they have nowhere else to turn.
“Hundreds of children contact Childline and chat to our counsellors every day, and you can help us be there for them. Run for #TeamNSPCC at the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2024 to help children in your community. Stand with us. Run for us. Together we can change children’s lives.”

We’ve seen thousands of runners taking to the streets of Cardiff to raise money for the charity over the years and we’re looking forward to supporting them once again for 2024.”
NSPCC runners will also get access to additional benefits including ‘VIP fundraiser’ passes. These will allow them to claim discounts from various outlets around the city of Cardiff including food, drink and merchandise as well as skip straight to the front of the event-village massage queue.
