Last year SCOTT partnered with Braveheart Runners to support Kenyan athletes and develop their running careers. Continuing into 2023, athlete contracts last one year, and apparel & accessories firm SCOTT aims to support as many talents as possible.
In January, the new Braveheart Runners team gathered for the first time for a bootcamp to train together on road, track, and trail. During a week, SCOTT followed the team documenting their life as runners in Iten, Kenya.
Iten is known as the ‘Home of Champions’ and is one of the most famous running meccas in the world. With an altitude of 2400m / 7900 ft above sea level, it is a key location for high altitude training.
According to SCOTT… ‘Every corner of the town lives and breathes running, where aspiring athletes join one of many training groups, and elite runners travel to Iten to train at high altitude. It is this special atmosphere and love for the sport that makes this town exceptional and lets young talents dream.’
“They wake up, they run, for example, a morning session from 6.00am to 7.30am and then they rest and have breakfast,” said Peter Aburi, Team Manager at Braveheart Runners. “Then they of course also have gym sessions and massages. It’s a very tight schedule.”
Following a trial race in December 2022, SCOTT and Braveheart Runners selected the athletes for the 2023 season. The new team consists of 11 athletes, of which 5 are women and 6 are men.
