With one month to go until Challenge Barcelona Triathlon 2024, the event in Spain is shaping up to be one of the largest yet, featuring a strong line-up of international and national professional triathletes.
The event has reportedly attracted nearly 3,000 participants and is nearing its cap of 3,500. Registrations will close on Wednesday, October 30, or once the maximum number of participants is reached. The race starts at 08:00 local time on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Formerly the Barcelona Triathlon, the event became part of Challenge Family’s international series in 2023. Held towards the back-end of the European triathlon race season, the event in Barcelona has consistently featured a field of over 3,000 participants making it a top 20 triathlon event globally.
Olympian Justus Nieschlag (GER) leads the men’s professional field. Joining him is Samuel Dickinson (GBR), Tom Hug (GER), and Guillem Montiel (ESP).
In the women’s race, Jessica Learmonth (GBR) leads the field. She will face tough competition from Imogen Simmonds (SUI), Caroline Pohle (GER), and Els Visser (NED).

The event takes participants through the heart of Barcelona, with the backdrop of the Sagrada Familia along the bike route. A major update for 2024 is the redesigned running course, which offers a faster, smoother circuit with uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea. The new layout reduces the number of 180º turns, improving the experience for athletes and enhancing race times.
This year’s edition will also feature the largest TRIEXPO in the event’s history, with over 20 brands confirmed to showcase their products at the CEM de la Mar Bella track. The expo is expected to draw more than 8,000 visitors throughout the race weekend, making it a central hub for both athletes and fans.
