Florianópolis wraps up Challenge Family’s 2024 international season

One of the final races of the 2024 triathlon season, the sold-out Challenge Florianópolis, will take place on Sunday, November 24th, on the scenic coastline of Santa Catarina in Brazil.

Challenge Family notes that the event brings together a strong field of Brazilian and American athletes alongside over 1,100 age groupers.

Also known as the ‘Magic Island’, Florianópolis is home to one of Brazil’s most popular coastlines, with over 100 beaches. The Challenge Florianópolis swim takes place at sunrise from the popular Jurerê Internacional beach.

The challenging bike course starts on the coast, entering the interior of the island, passing through some traditional tourist spots. The run returns back to the beach and through the streets of Jurerê Internacional, before a finish line with music and entertainment.

In the men’s race, Brazil’s Andre Lopes leads the field with years of middle-distance experience since 2018, making him a favourite to win on home soil. His closest challengers are Reinaldo Colucci (BRA) and Messias Dos Santos (BRA).

The women’s race will feature a mix of experience and emerging talent. Olympian Vittoria Lopes (BRA), who recently transitioned to middle-distance racing, is looking to make an impact in her second race at this distance. Pamella Oliveira (BRA), the 2022 Challenge Florianópolis champion, brings her extensive middle-distance experience. Meanwhile, Rachel Olson, the American who finished second last year in Florianópolis will aim to improve on her previous result.
