The results from the public qualification pathway of the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships have been confirmed. Successful athletes from national federations and public qualifiers will progress to the semi-finals on September 6, 2024.
The public qualifiers, held on three different dates on the MyWhoosh platform, utilised a points-based scoring system across two stages, ensuring athletes of various racing profiles had an opportunity to secure one of the 30 public qualification slots per gender.
Semi-finals and live final
With the riders selected through the national federation qualifiers, more than 120 female and 130 male athletes have been nominated to progress to the semi-finals to be held virtually, on September 6, 2024.
From this event, the top 20 riders of each gender will advance to the live final on October 26 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. To ensure a level playing field, all athletes invited to the live final will be provided with an Elite Justo 2 smart trainer by MyWhoosh’s official hardware partner, Elite. This ensures that all finalists will be familiar with the hardware used during the event.

MyWhoosh is responsible for all aspects of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, including course development, creating race guidelines, and hosting the live finals in Abu Dhabi.
Semi-final details and points system
On September 6, 2024, the semi-final will consist of two stages, with racers competing remotely, provided they are fully verified and using equipment that complies with MyWhoosh Cycling Esports Rules and Regulations. Riders must be affiliated to a national federation and available to join a live stream for the event.

The event will cover two of the same stages as in the live final, with both races being points-based. The top 20 riders of each gender at the conclusion of the two stages will qualify, following full verification, for the live final in Abu Dhabi.
Semi-Final Stage 1: The Strategist
This stage features a 9 km circuit with a virtual climb of 1. km in length. Points are awarded at three key moments on the course:
- Base of the climb: Points are awarded to the first 20 riders to reach the base of the climb, starting with 20 points for the first rider and decreasing by 1 point per subsequent rider (20, 19, 18, etc.).
- Top of the climb: Similarly, the first 20 riders to reach the top of the climb receive points on the same scale (20, 19, 18, etc.).
- Finish line: The finish line is strategically placed after the climb, requiring riders to save energy for a final push. Points at the finish line are awarded as follows: 40 points for 1st place, 38 for 2nd, 36 for 3rd, and so on, down to 2 points for 20th place.
Semi-Final Stage 2: All Out
Stage 2 is a circuit consisting of four laps on a 4km course, with a 12% gradient climb leading to the finish line of each lap. Points are awarded at the end of each lap, with double points on the final lap:
- Lap 1-3: Points are awarded to the first 20 riders at the finish line of each lap (20 points for 1st, 19 for 2nd, and so on down to 1 point for 20th).
- Lap 4 (Final Lap): Double points are awarded on the final lap, with 40 points for 1st place, 38 for 2nd, 36 for 3rd, and so on, down to 2 points for 20th place.
MyWhoosh adds that this points system ensures that consistent performance across all stages is rewarded, while also allowing for strategic opportunities to secure valuable points at crucial moments in the race.
