Greg van Avermaat, the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic road race champion, is the latest Campagnolo ambassador. The retired Belgian professional cyclist will be contributing to the development of products by the Vicenza-based manufacturer.
Interestingly, van Avermaet’s last victory as a pro in the Boucles de l’Auln-Châteaulin last year, was on a Campagnolo-equipped bike. His preferred BMC bike is fitted with a Super Record Wireless groupset combined with the just-launched Campagnolo HPPM power meter and new Bora Ultra WTO wheels.
In the short term the former pro will not just be cycling on roads – as he has joined the newly created ‘Team Last Dance’ gravel team, which asked the Belgian to join its roster. The team is the inspiration of Dutch cycling specialist and YouTuber Douwe Doorduin – who, along with former pro Petr Vakoč – will be riding alongside Belgian champion van Avermaat in 2024 season gravel races.
