The Chicago Triathlon and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago have launched the inaugural Corporate Challenge, which will take place at the Chicago Triathlon on August 24-25, 2024.
Lurie Children’s has been named the premier beneficiary of the event with fundraising efforts supporting paediatric cancer research.
Now owned by supertri, having acquired the event from Life Time, the Chicago Triathlon is billed as the largest urban triathlon in the United States with over 5,000 participants. The event consists of multiple distances – Olympic, Sprint, SuperSprint and a large kids triathlon.
The course and key segments run through downtown Chicago locations with a swim in Lake Michigan. As well as delivering competition for more experienced triathletes, the race is also positioned for beginners with training resources and other programs to support those who are new to the sport of triathlon.
In the Corporate Challenge, companies vie to raise the most funds for paediatric cancer research at Lurie Children’s. The introduction of a Corporate Challenge in Chicago by supertri Group – in its first year operating the event – builds on fundraising with a Corporate Challenge in California that has raised over US$18 million for paediatric cancer research.
Corporate Challenge participants can register to compete in the triathlon as an individual or as part of a relay team. Fundraising is built around incentives as new levels are reach, with swim clinics and triathlon clinics to help those who are new to the sport.
“We look forward to partnering with Lurie Children’s in the years to come to continue our tradition of raising money for paediatric cancer research and we welcome teams from Chicago’s business community to join us on this tremendous journey,” said Michael D’Hulst, CEO of the supertri Group.
Dr Robert Liem, Division Head, Hematology, Oncology, Neuro-Oncology & Stem Cell Transplantation at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago said “Lurie Children’s is proud to partner with supertri and the Chicago Triathlon.
“The support of the Lurie Children’s community for our patients and families always inspires me. To provide the athletes competing in the largest and most accessible triathlon in the country with this outlet to help our kids is really special – and I’m excited to see which corporation wins the challenge.”
