The Life Time Grand Prix presented by Mazda is back in action on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with the Life Time Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival presented by Trek.
Th MTB event in Wisconsin is celebrating its 41st anniversary this year, making it the oldest and longest-running mountain bike race in the US.
The elite men’s and women’s races have separate start times. The elite women will get going at 12:30 local time with the men commencing at 13:00.
In addition to the pro athletes racing on the Life Time Grand Prix circuit, thousands of amateur off-road enthusiasts will tackle the ‘Chequamegon 40’, ‘Short & Fat’ and ‘Little Loggers’ routes, while the event festival also includes a weekend of live music, craft beer and food trucks.
‘Clocking in at 39.1 miles, the route is the shortest of the series and takes athletes on a rollercoaster ride from Hayward, across the American Birkebeiner Ski Trail, with back-to-back climbs and a multitude of terrain serving up a war of attrition before the winner is crowned at the Great Hall in Cable.’
Kimo Seymour, Life Time President Media & Events, said “Our team and athletes always look forward to Chequamegon, which is such a unique race on our calendar.
“It might be the shortest event on the Life Time Grand Prix but it certainly packs a punch and always serves up some spectacular action. It’s fast, with not a lot of climbing, and we never know how the course conditions might vary.
“If it’s a dry year the course rides like pavement, but if it rains, it’s an absolute mud fest. It always takes a special rider to adapt to Chequamegon.”
He continued, “As for the series itself, we’re at the halfway point, with three races to go, and tensions are rising as the riders vie for those top spots. All this should mean we’re treated to a day of fantastic racing in the Wisconsin woods.”
