Held on November 9-10, 2024, the second edition of the Muntanyes de Prades Epic Trail in Spain had the Prades Municipality as its nerve centre. Already building a following in the international ultra running community, the Prades Epic Trail covers the majority of the inland Costa Daurada area.
Taking in Spain’s Catalonia region, southwest of Barcelona, the Prades Epic Trail featured racing across a variety of distances (12K, 25K, 50K, 90K), with a €25,000 prize pool up for grabs.
The long-distance event kicked off at 06:00 local time from the Civic Center of Prades, in Baix Camp (Tarragona), with 284 participants (270 men and 14 women) setting out into the Muntanyes de Prades.
Due to recent heavy rains, the planned route had to be modified, resulting in a course of approximately 87km with a 5,000m elevation gain.
The event’s main sponsors include Costa Daurada (the tourism brand used by the region’s Tarragona Council). Continuing to support the event, the organising team has confirmed that Prades Epic Trail will return next year, on November 7-9, 2025.
With a start and finish in Prades (Tarragona), participants traverse the Muntanyes Prades Natural Park, with three aid stations and a marked course with GPS timing.
Costa Daurada Torism is aiming to get its destination in the international outdoor sporting calendar. It has been investing in the region to attract climbers and trail runners all year round.
Complementing this event, in March, the TrailCat ultrarunning event is also held in Costa Daurada and is part of TORX Xperience circuit, enabling runners to secure a slot at the Tor Des Géants race in Italy’s Dolomites.
