Sweat, hydration and fuelling specialist, Precision Fuel & Hydration (PF&H), has appointed a new Head of Sports Science and a Senior Sports Scientist, to expand its expertise and provide support for athletes.
Dr Sam Shepherd joins as the new Head of Sports Science at Precision Fuel & Hydration, while Lindsey Hunt is on board as Senior Sports Scientist.
On top of opening a new HQ in the New Forest on the south coast of the UK and launching partnerships with GCN, IRONMAN and Leadville Race Series this year, Precision Fuel & Hydration’s newest appointments will be combining their expertise on nutrition, metabolism and human thermoregulation.
The company adds that it will… ‘provide science-based expert advice to the company’s growing community of elite and amateur athletes around the world.’
Dr Sam Shepherd, new Head of Sports Science at Precision Fuel & Hydration, said “I worked at Liverpool John Moore’s University (LJMU) for 12 years, conducting research on carbohydrate and fat metabolism during exercise, and how manipulating nutrition could improve the exercise response.
“My experience will lend itself well to developing and improving the advice that we give to athletes we work with.
“Part of my remit will also involve collaborating on research projects with universities to move our understanding of fuelling for sport and our guidelines forward.”
Lindsey Hunt, Senior Sports Scientist, relocated from Sydney, Australia, to join the team in the UK earlier this month.
Hunt said “I recently completed my PhD at the Thermal Ergonomics Lab at the University of Sydney, where I investigated the factors that affect sweat rates during outdoor endurance exercise in order to help athletes develop better hydration strategies.
“I’ve specialised in heat acclimation and even set up my own heat acclimation studio where I’d offer heat acclimation advice for athletes preparing to perform in the heat. I’m excited to be able to implement what I’ve learned here at PF&H.”
From its base near Highcliffe, Dorset, PF&H supplies athletes in more than 90 countries with fuel and electrolytes products, through fulfilment operations in five countries on three continents.
Dr Sam Shepherd added “I had a sweat test with the team back in 2018 and have enjoyed seeing the brand really take off in recent years.
“What (co-founders) Andy (Blow) and Jonny (Tye) stand for in terms of their mission to help athletes everywhere understand how to stay hydrated and fuelled so they can perform at their best was a real draw for me, so I’m looking forward to using my experience to continue building on that.”
Elite athletes themselves, co-founders Blow and Tye have grown Precision Fuel & Hydration from a start-up in a garden shed in 2011, into a leading multinational sports nutrition brand with no external investment.
