World Triathlon has shared a July 4, 2024 report made public by the city of Paris about water quality in the Seine river.
Four areas on the River Seine in Paris are monitored daily and presented in the latest Seine water quality bulletin. This provides an indication of the microbiological quality of the water at the following sites:
Bercy (right bank)
Bras Marie
Pont Alexandre-III (Olympic site)
Bras de Grenelle
The triathlon and paratriathlon venue and swim course are located at Pont Alexandre III.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games takes place from July 26, 2024 to August 11, 2024. With a swim start at Pont Alexandre III on the Seine, the men’s Olympic triathlon takes place on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 08:00 CEST, with the women’s triathlon on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 08:00.
Also under way at the Alexandre III pontoon, the mixed team relay will be on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 08:00.
Individual Paralympic Games triathlon events (swim 750m; para-bike 20km; run 5km) take place for men and women on September 1-2, 2024.
During the period from June 24 to July 2, 2024,, in spite of significant water flow, the Seine water quality has reportedly improved over the period, and the results are consistent with thresholds determined by European directive.
World Triathlon notes that… ‘This positive evolution is due to the return of sunshine and warmer temperatures, and to the works carried out as part of the Seine Water Quality Improvement Plan.’
Water quality degraded on June 30 as a consequence of rainfall on Saturday 30 June, over the Île de France catchment, before improving again the following day. Much will hinge on rainfall in the coming days and weeks, as this clearly impacts water quality in the heart of Paris.
