The 33rd edition of L’Étape du Tour de France will take place on Sunday, July 20, 2025, welcoming 16,000 amateur cyclists on a challenging 131km route between Albertville and La Plagne in the French Alps.
The course, replicating stage 19 of the 2025 Tour de France, includes 4,500m of elevation gain and five mountain climbs – among them the Col du Pré, Cormet de Roselend, and a summit finish at La Plagne.
The event is organised by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), event organiser of the Tour de France. Billed as the ultimate European cyclosportive, L’Étape du Tour de France attracts an international field – with riders from 90 countries and 27.4% of participants travelling into France from abroad. A.S.O. adds that almost half the field will take on the event for the first time.
A number of professional and former elite athletes will join this year’s edition. Participants include:
- Claude Dartois, former Koh Lanta contestant and ultra-distance gravel cyclist
- Arthur Bauchet, para-skier and three-time Paralympic champion
- Thibaut Fauconnet, two-time European short track speed skating champion
- Alexandre Lloveras, Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold medallist in tandem cycling
Team Julbo, a regular fixture at the event, is also returning with a roster of athletes including:
- Trail runners Thibaut Baronian, Lucy Bartholomew (AUS), and Hillary Gerardi (USA)
- Mountain climbers Mathis Dumas and Mathieu Maynadier
- Freeride skier Sybille Blanjean
- Ski mountaineer Mathéo Jacquemoud, a six-time world champion
- Social media personality Deborah Spinelli (Italy), who has a large following across triathlon and cycling tourism circles
Hutchinson x She Rides promotes women’s participation
As official provider for the eighth consecutive year, Hutchinson is renewing its support for women’s cycling at L’Étape du Tour de France. Around 15 riders will participate as part of the Hutchinson x She Rides initiative – a year-round programme that provides resources and support for women in cycling.
The initiative aims to remove barriers to participation and create visibility for female athletes, with members serving as ambassadors to promote inclusivity in the sport.
Record €450,000 raised for charity
The 2025 edition has already raised a record €450,000 through 670 charity bibs, including over 420 entries supporting Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque. The French charity, founded by Professor Francine Leca in 1996, funds life-saving heart surgery for children from low-income countries.
Each rider supporting the cause has pledged to raise a minimum of €800. Funds raised this year are expected to finance surgeries for 21 children – surpassing the 2024 total of €200,000 raised by 300 riders.
