The fifth annual Boulderthon, presented by Puma, saw record-breaking participation with over 15,600 runners taking to the streets of Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday, September 28, a 56% growth on last year’s total of 10,000.

The multi-distance event, which includes a marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, and a Kids Run, cemented its place as Colorado’s largest autumn/fall running event and one of the fastest-growing races in the US.

The race awarded a US$10,000 prize to the top women’s 5km finisher, Everlyn Kemboi, who broke the Colorado state 5km record time with a finish of 15:40. In the men’s 5km, Yemane Haileselassie took first place with a time of 13:46, shaving 12 seconds off his winning time from last year.

For the marathon distance, Milton Rotich took first in the men’s division with a time of 2:21. Liv Taber took the women’s top spot in 2:59:20.

“We are thrilled by the record-breaking turnout this year,” said Alexa Squillaro, Event Director.

“Seeing thousands of runners from across the nation and the world come together, enjoy our new courses and celebrate their accomplishments reminds us how lucky we are to have such a supportive community and so many dedicated participants helping make Boulderthon a success.”

The marathon and half marathon runners followed newly designed routes aimed at reducing overall elevation gain, before finishing on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall.

Boulderthon also introduced innovative sustainability measures, such as hemp bibs for 10km runners and reusable silicone cups at hydration stations, in partnership with Hiccup and the City of Boulder, to reduce single-use waste.
