Spartan Ultras in Europe adopt Gretel event tech in 2025

Gretel Planner has partnered with the three major Spartan Ultra races held in Europe for the 2025 season: with Spartan Ultra Encamp-Andorra, the Morzine Ultra World Championship in France, and Spartan Ultra See-Kaprun in Austria leveraging Gretel’s technology to help improve athletes’ experience and safety.

With routes that combine major elevation gains, technical obstacles, and demanding environments, the three events represent an extreme challenge both physically and mentally. Helping to support participants, Gretel Planner will be available for athletes to plan their pacing, nutrition strategy, and effort management with more precision.

The Ultra race format is Spartan’s longest event, covering 50km and featuring 60 obstacles, including natural challenges and signature Spartan elements. In Morzine, participants also face a positive elevation gain of approximately 4,000m in mountainous terrain, making it one of the toughest challenges in the Spartan calendar.

“It is very important for us to demonstrate that Gretel Planner is a technology that can adapt to any endurance-based sporting event,” said Jorge Vilanova, CEO of Gretel Planner.

“Our technology is essential for simplifying the perception of the challenge and creating reliable strategies. Moreover, having the trust of such a well-known brand and a team as strong as Spartan’s is a professional and personal achievement.”

With thousands of users worldwide and more than 700 events already integrated, Gretel Planner enables athletes to visualize each race section, anticipate difficulties, schedule rest breaks, and adapt effort and nutrition based on their fitness level. The platform is free for runners and available in multiple languages (ES, EN, FR, PT, IT).

Gretel Planner added that… ‘The latest partnership positions the European Spartan Ultras as forward-thinking races committed to using technology to elevate event quality, safety, and athlete performance.’
