adidas Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival joins World Trail Majors

Austria’s adidas Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival (IATF) has joined the World Trail Majors circuit for its 12th edition, scheduled to take place from May 5–8, 2027, in the Tyrolean Alps.

Organised by Club Laufwerkstatt, the event previously hosted the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in 2023. The 2026 edition welcomed a record-breaking 9,000-plus runners from 82 countries. The inclusion of the festival into the World Trail Majors series expands the international series’ reach into core European Alpine terrain ahead of its third official season in 2027.

Under the new agreement, two of the festival’s key distances will form part of the World Trail Majors scoring framework:

  • K110 Masters of Innsbruck: The event’s marquee ultra-distance race, spanning 112km with 5,500m of elevation gain, will count towards the main World Trail Majors classification. Starting at midnight on Friday from Innsbruck’s city centre, the course traverses the Kalkkögel limestone peaks, Patscherkofel summit (2,248m), and the Inn Valley trails.
  • K42 Trailmarathon: Featuring 43km and 2,400m of elevation gain, the course joins the Short Series by World Trail Majors (catering to races between 30km and 60km). Rescheduled to Thursday morning starting from Mutters, the mountain marathon covers sections used in the 2023 World Championships, including Axamer Lizum and the Nordkette mountain range.

In addition to the World Trail Majors distance categories, the four-day festival includes 12 race formats ranging from an 8.2km night trail to the elite-only ‘Trail Hunt’ pursuit race, which awards €30,000 in total prize money across two days of competition. The event precinct in central Innsbruck also hosts a commercial expo featuring over 50 outdoor brands, equipment testing, film screenings, and an dedicated food court area.

Alexander Pittl, Chief Executive Officer of Laufwerkstatt, said “It is a privilege for us to become part of this important international ultrarunning series. We share the same values and passion for the mountains as the other races in the series.

“This partnership is undoubtedly another step forward in our ambition to grow the adidas Innsbruck Alpine on the international stage, while staying true to our identity as an independent event. We are convinced that runners who come to experience our mountains will immediately fall in love with the alpine-urban spirit of Innsbruck.”

World Trail Majors is a non-profit association of independent trail running events globally, established to promote sustainable, community-rooted mountain races while preserving the individual identity and culture of host regions.
