Performance equipment manufacturer Giro Sport Design has announced a three-year partnership extension with WorldTour cycling team Team Visma | Lease a Bike.
The renewed agreement will see Giro continue as the official helmet supplier for the men’s, women’s and development squads through to the end of the 2029 season. The brand will supply its helmet range and collaborate with riders and performance staff on equipment development.
Giro Sport Design has been working with the team since 2024. The partnership combines the brand’s helmet engineering with the team’s performance programme to seek marginal gains in competition and inform future commercial product development.
Since the collaboration began, Team Visma | Lease a Bike has achieved results such as Pauline Ferrand-Prévot’s overall win at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in 2025, alongside Wout Van Aert’s victory at Paris-Roubaix and Jonas Vingegaard’s Giro d’Italia General Classification win.
The team utilises several Giro Sport Design models, including the Eclipse Pro Spherical for road racing and the lightweight Aries Spherical for mountain stages. The time trial squads use the Aerohead and Aerohead II helmets.
The development of the Aerohead II involved wind tunnel testing with riders such as Wout Van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard. Giro’s research and development team also created full 3D body prints of the riders in their time trial positions to optimise aerodynamic performance across the rider system.
Emily Watts, Global Director of Sports Marketing at Giro Sport Design, said “At Giro, we’re driven by a relentless pursuit of performance, and Team Visma | Lease a Bike shares that same mindset. Extending this partnership allows us to continue testing and developing our products in the most demanding racing environments in the world. The insights gained from working alongside elite athletes help us push the boundaries of design and innovation, ultimately creating better products for everyone who rides.”
The partnership aims to provide the manufacturer with feedback from elite athletes during international races to refine its product development process.
Ash Lewin, Senior Industrial Designer at Giro Sport Design, said “We couldn’t be more energised to continue our partnership with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. This relationship pushes us to redefine performance innovation – going deeper into the complexity of the rider system to design helmets that are fully integrated. The next three years will allow us to explore bold design advances and there’s no better proving ground than the WorldTour to develop them.”
Jasper Saeijs, Chief Business Officer at Team Visma | Lease a Bike, added “Our partnership with Giro is built on a shared commitment to continuously improve. We’ve shown that the last few years, with the Aerohead II as a great example. At the highest level, success is often determined by details, so having a partner that is constantly thinking with us to develop the best product is incredibly valuable. We are glad we can continue together and are looking forward to all future developments.”
