Pirelli has introduced the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R, described as the fastest and most aerodynamic model in its road racing range. The tyre debuts the patented Pirelli Advanced Aerodynamic System (PAAS), which according to the company can deliver up to 15 watts of aerodynamic savings under specific conditions.
The new tyre is designed for high-speed disciplines such as time trials and road races. It has been refined using feedback from WorldTour partner teams, including Alpecin-Premier Tech, Fenix-Premier Tech, and Lidl-Trek, where it was previously tested under a prototype label.
The PAAS technology reshapes the tyre to improve interaction with the rim and to smooth airflow. By optimising the geometry of the inflated tyre, the system is designed to delay flow separation and maximise the ‘sailing effect’ of the wheel-tyre system. Pirelli reports that this reduces wheel drag by an average of 5 watts in crosswind conditions.
The P ZERO Race TLR SL-R also features a new LiteCORE casing. This structure is the lightest tubeless-ready design developed by the company and is claimed to contribute to a 10% reduction in rolling resistance compared to the existing P ZERO Race TLR RS.
Additional features of the tyre include:
- SmartEVO² compound, as used in the 2025 Milan–Sanremo and Paris–Roubaix victories by Mathieu van der Poel
- Specific micro-textured surface on the slick tread to optimise airflow and grip at high speeds
- Manufacturing at Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate facility in Italy
- Use of FSC-certified natural rubber, which accounts for 21% of the total tyre weight
The tyre is compatible with modern wide internal rim widths ranging from 22mm to 25mm and is suitable for hookless rims within specified pressure limits. It is currently available in 28-622 and 30-622 sizes, with a 32mm version expected to be introduced after summer 2026.
The range includes a standard black sidewall with a silver label and a yellow ‘Team Edition’ version.
