Zwift's acquisition of ROUVY shakes up indoor cycling market

Zwift, the online fitness platform, has announced the completion of its strategic acquisition of ROUVY, the indoor cycling application that focuses on real-world video routes. The move is intended to accelerate growth within the indoor cycling category through… ‘strategic cooperation between the two companies, while maintaining their independent operations.’

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed by either party. Zwift has though confirmed that both companies will continue to operate independently. This includes maintaining separate product roadmaps and distinct subscription packages for their respective communities.

The Zwift acquisition of ROUVY represents a major shake-up of the indoor training market, effectively bringing the most significant competitors in the ‘virtual’ and ‘real-world’ cycling categories under one roof.

By acquiring ROUVY, Zwift has effectively absorbed its largest standalone rival. ROUVY had already consolidated much of the ‘realistic’ training market itself, having acquired FulGaz in January 2025 and BKOOL in July 2025. By absorbing ROUVY, Zwift now controls:

  • The leading gamified, 3D-rendered platform (Zwift)
  • The dominant real-world video and ‘augmented reality’ platform (ROUVY)
  • High-def video content and triathlon-specific routes from FulGaz
  • Access to the Spanish indoor market via ROUVY’s prior purchase of the BKOOL platform

Following the latest deal, the two remaining independent virtual cycling competitors to Zwift are UAE-backed MyWhoosh and TrainingPeaks Virtual.

Eric Min, Co-Founder and CEO at Zwift, said “This is a major moment for both Zwift and ROUVY. We have a huge amount of respect for what ROUVY has achieved, developing a fantastic product and growing their international community by demonstrating there is a strong market for real video experiences.”

Min noted that the indoor cycling market has seen significant growth recently, driven by the increased affordability of ‘Zwift Ready’ hardware. Effective immediately, Zwift Ready smart trainers and Zwift Ride smart frames will be compatible with the ROUVY software.

Petr Samek, CEO and Founder of ROUVY, said “This is a strong validation of what we’ve built with our team and community, connecting indoor and outdoor training through real routes. ROUVY will continue to be the ROUVY you all know and love, with the same team and the same focus on helping riders achieve their cycling goals.”

Samek added that the support from Zwift and its hardware ecosystem would allow the company to create more experiences in the field of indoor cycling reality.

Zwift, which uses gaming technology to create 3D virtual worlds such as Watopia, London, and Paris, serves as a social and competitive hub for cyclists and runners. ROUVY specialises in ‘augmented reality’, using high-definition video of roads and gradients to simulate outdoor riding. It holds existing partnerships with organisations such as IRONMAN and professional teams including Lidl–Trek.
