TriColumbia, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier endurance event production company, has unveiled the inaugural Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon. The triathlon will take place on 9 September 2012 at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland, and consists of a 0.5 mile swim, 16 mile bike and 3 mile run. This inspirational all women’s event is about empowering women toward a healthy lifestyle and providing a platform whereby women support one another as they journey toward the finish line.
In addition to Iron Girl Rocky Gap, TriColumbia’s inaugural Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Half Marathon & Coed 5K will take place on 29 April in Columbia, Maryland, and will benefit those living and coping with cancer served by the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center at Howard County General Hospital.
The 7th annual Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon, the most popular event in the Iron Girl series, sold out in less than four hours and will take place on 19 August at Centennial Lake Park in Columbia. Earlier this year, the Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon was named the ‘Best Women’s Event’ in the Mid-Atlantic by Competitor Magazine.
“We are excited and honoured to have the opportunity to produce another Iron Girl event in Maryland this season,” said Robert Vigorito, President and founder of TriColumbia. “Based on the unprecedented popularity of the Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon, we are pleased to introduce another way for women to participate in an endurance event. Registration for the 2012 Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon will open on 10 April 2012 at 15:00 EST. Registration is US$135 for USAT members, US$145 for non-USAT members and US$235 for a three person relay team. The prize purse is US$4,999 for all competitors except relays.
