New via IMG, the team behind the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Series, comes the Escape to Rio Triathlon. Held on 7 April 2013, the Olympic/International distance race (1.5K swim / 40K bike / 10K run) centres around Forte de Copacabana, the south end of the beach in Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana district.

Escape to Rio will debut in April 2013 and will be a qualifier for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Rio joins the Beijing International Triathlon, the first qualifying event in Asia, as a qualifier for the iconic Escape from Alcatraz event.
(Coveted race slots for the infamous and grueling 2013 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will be awarded to the top 50 men and women across each group and division of the new China race.) The inaugural Escape to Rio event in Brazil is limited to 800 places; and registration opens on 4 December 2012.
