Consolidated results at Shimano for the first nine months of 2010 show the company generating net sales of ¥155,875 million, up 15.9% on the previous year period.
Robust sales in the US and Europe since spring 2010 was noted by Shimano’s Bicycle Components business unit (as opposed to its fishing tackle and other business activities).
In the nine months to 30 September 2010, Shimano’s bicycle division registered net sales of ¥123,153 million. This was up 19.7% year on year; and, overall, bicycles represented 79% of total consolidated revenue for the company.
Operating income for the bicycle division reached ¥23,976 million. This surged by 79.4% year on year and represented the majority (94%) of profit generated by the company. (During the nine month period, total consolidated operating income for Shimano stood at ¥25,558 million.)
The division saw that ‘worldwide distribution inventories of bicycles were at almost normal levels except in certain markets.’
Shimano noted that second quarter product launches, such as the 105 series of road bike components and the Deore XT and SLX for mountain bikes, enjoyed brisk sales.
