Coaching specialist Tri Dynamic has announced the next event in its series with elite coach Darren Smith. Following on from the Australian Dsquad Tri Camp next January, Tri Dynamic will be organising another Triathlon Master Class with Darren Smith in London on 2-3 February 2013.
As noted by Tri Dynamic, this is a rare opportunity to work with one of the best triathlon coaches in the world. 2012 has been a fantastic year for Darren Smith and his Dsquad. He had a record six athletes competing in the Olympic triathlon including the Silver Medallist, Sweden’s Lisa Norden, USA’s Sarah Groff (4th Place) and Germany’s Anne Haug (11th place).
Smith was also the first coach in the history of the sport to have his athletes finish on the top two places on the overall podium in the ITU World Triathlon Series. He has recently announced the new Dsquad line up, which includes Anne Haug, Katie Roberts, Annabel Luxford, Aileen Morrison, D’Ann Arthur, Jodie Stimpson, Katie Hewison, Anna Maria Mazzetti, Shelly Wu, Cameron Good, Matt Chrabot, Greg Rouault and Declan Elliot.
The Darren Smith Triathlon Master Class events will take place at Hampton Outdoor Pool and St Mary’s University College, Twickenham on Saturday 2 February and Sunday 3 February. There will be two ability levels covered over the weekend. The Saturday will be for ‘Improvers/Intermediate’ athletes and the Sunday is for ‘Advanced’ athletes.
The Improver/Intermediate level is designed for anyone who swims 400m in the pool slower than 7.30 minutes and runs a 10K slower than 42 minutes. The Advanced day (Sunday) is for swimmers who are faster than 7.30 minutes for a 400m and quicker than 42 mins for a 10K. Places will be limited to 12 participants per day. Although, athletes can sign up for both sessions to benefit from an entire weekend being coached by Darren Smith.
Commenting on the London Master Class event back in August, Darren Smith said, “I got a kick out of working with those who attended the Tri Dynamic training weekend in London because the enthusiasm from the participants was infectious and frankly it was pretty easy to make some really significant changes in such a short period of time.”
There will be a dual focus each day with Smith concentrating on swim and run skills with classroom, practical and video analysis components, just like he does with his pro athletes. Darren Smith is well known for taking in relative non-swimmers and turning them into front pack athletes, as was the case with Sweden’s Lisa Norden, who under Darren Smith became Olympic Silver Medallist and 4 x World Champion.
She also won back-to-back titles at the prestigious Hy-Vee Triathlon. She rounded out the 2012 season with the overall ITU World Triathlon Series (ITU WTS) title.
Each participant will receive individual analysis and feedback. The swim component of the clinic will be based at Hampton Pool’s outdoor 36m heated pool, with classroom sessions and video analysis taking place in the poolside studio. The run component will take place at nearby St Mary’s University College in Twickenham utilising the athletics track and facilities where several Team GB stars including Mo Farah as well as Usain Bolt have all trained.
Tri Dynamic and Darren Smith will be running a series of unique events around the world in 2013, with further details coming soon.
