Rebecca Romero joins Alan Rapley camp at Kinetic PB in March 2013

Olympic legend and cycling gold medallist, and now Ironman athlete, Rebecca Romero will be joining Kinetic PB for its training camp in Spain during 9-16 March 2013.

The camp is led by Olympian Alan Rapley and is open to anyone of any standard; but numbers will be limited to maximise the benefits to attendees for this exclusive training camp. Each participating athlete will also get a bespoke programme to suit their individual needs.

“I can’t wait to see you in March and help you achieve your swimming and cycling goals, whilst having some great fun with like minded people!”, said Rapley.

Alan Rapley is a former Olympic GB Swim Team Captain. He represented Great Britain and England over many years at events all over Europe and internationally. Rapley finished his professional career at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Since hanging up his pro swim cap, Rapley has a developed a range of coaching initiatives. He is also retained by British Triathlon as a Swimming Consultant and is a Consultant Mentor for the Irish Paralympic Swimming Team.

Kinetic PB is a premier endurance training centre located amongst the foothills of the Sistema Bético in Spain – amidst ‘the sunniest, warmest and driest region in continental Europe.’

As a unique selling point, the training centre boasts a 1150m lake that is ideal for open-water swimming and it is right on the doorstep. The Kinetic PB sports centre also features a 25m heated indoor swimming pool. For coastal swimmers there are over 16km of beautiful, uncrowded sandy beaches in the vicinity.

The lake never drops below 10ºC in the depths of winter (January and February) but in March the sun rapidly heats it to over 18ºC. In April wet-suits are coming off and are not required again until November. Summer temperatures in the lake can get into the high 20’s. Generally speaking, the lake temperature sits about 3 or 4 degrees above the average minimum air temperature for the region.

A 2.6K tarmac running track borders the open water lake. This is flat and well suited for specific interval sets. There are also many beautiful trail routes ranging in length and difficulty that start from the main lodge and also many road routes.

The roads nearby snake their way through a beautiful desert landscape and allow riders to explore this desert region, taking in all the area has to offer. The majority of the roads are in excellent condition and little-used by vehicles. There are Hors Categorie climbs, undulating coastal roads and fast, rolling straights.

Athletes may often see Garmin, Telenet-Fidea and the Belgian national team out training during the pre-season. They all visit the area year after year.
