The organising team of the 2013 HITS Triathlon Series has announced that it will return to Colorado during 2013, and has opened registration for HITS Grand Junction, planned for 18-19 May.
HITS will offer ‘a distance for everyone!’ in Grand Junction, including Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full distance races, coupled with the popular HITS Open. This features a 100m swim, a 3 mile bike, a 1 mile run – and is aimed at growing the sport of triathlon by welcoming new athletes to a user-friendly distance.
For the athletes going long, the Half and Full distance races will take place on Saturday 18 May. The Sprint, Olympic and Open distance races will occur on Sunday 19 May.
After past success with Colorado Parks & Wildlife, HITS will introduce its Grand Junction event at Highline Lake State Park. Athletes will swim in the waters of Highline Lake, where water temperatures are estimated in the low 60s Fahrenheit. The bike course is fast and offers expansive views, while the run delivers a spectacularly scenic route over the Highline Dam.
“We have been working tirelessly since the beginning to find an ideal location in Colorado and I think we have done so with Grand Junction,” said HITS Race Director Mark Wilson. “The swim, bike and run courses at every distance are going to be a thrill and we are very excited to provide more long distance options to Colorado athletes.”
New pricing structure
HITS rolled out its 2013 pricing structure back in August this year; and after seeing events fill up quickly, the organisers will continue offering deep discounts for athletes who sign up early for HITS Grand Junction. Those who sign up before 18 January will receive 75% off regular pricing. Prices will then continue to increase as race day approaches.
“While some believe that there’s enough demand to increase rates, our approach is focused on delivering value,” said HITS President and CEO Tom Struzzieri. “This innovative structure allows athletes who organize their schedules in advance an affordable price point.”

HITS is currently working with local hotels to arrange lodging partners and will post them as soon as they become available.
