With the aim of introducing more athletes to the exciting multisport discipline of duathlon, USA Triathlon (USAT) has unveiled the 10 events that will comprise the 2013 USA Triathlon Duathlon Race Series.
Elite Duathlon National Championships
This year’s Elite Duathlon National Championships has also been added to the event line-up for USA Triathlon’s 2013 Duathlon National Championships, slated for 26 October in Tucson/Oro Valley, Arizona.
Elite athletes will compete in a standard-distance duathlon event featuring a 5K run, 35K bike and a second 5K run. A US$5,000 total prize purse will be on the line – US$ 2,500 for the men and US$2,500 for the women. The first-place finisher will earn US$1,250, with US$750 going to the runner-up and US$500 to the third-place finisher.
2013 Duathlon Race Series
With one event in each of USA Triathlon’s 10 Regions, age group duathletes across the US will have the opportunity to compete in a top-flight run-bike-run event. Each event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and will count toward the popular end-of-year Duathlon National Rankings for USAT annual members.
Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each series event.
The first event of the series — the Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon — is set for 17 February in Fort Worth, Texas, and series races will continue through to the 20 October Longboat Key Duathlon in Longboat Key, Florida.
As outlined above, USA Triathlon’s Duathlon National Championships is slated for 26 October in Tucson/Oro Valley, Arizona.
USA Triathlon sanctioned nearly 600 duathlon races in 2012, more than doubling the number of sanctioned races from 2006.
